Interpersonal CommunicationListen with care. Speak with clarity.Self-Paced Course

Understand professional interpersonal exchanges through a proposed two hours of recorded theory and a quiz, studied asynchronously.

Work on professional interpersonal exchanges: understanding a colleague, expressing a need, navigating disagreement and agreeing a next step. The focus is the relationship within a conversation, distinct from communication-process mapping and public speaking.

Who it is for

For professionals, managers, entrepreneurs and students who collaborate with colleagues, clients or partners. Examples concern everyday work conversations, not therapy, legal advice or formal dispute resolution. Use fictional or anonymised situations rather than sharing sensitive personal details.

Learning outcomes

Explain listening and clarification

Distinguish active listening, reformulation and question types in worked examples.

Identify a respectful response

Recognise framing, alignment, metaphor, differing opinions, assertiveness and boundaries in professional scenarios.

Compare approaches to difficult exchanges

Identify the sandwich technique and its limits, and select suitable feedback or conflict-conversation steps in a quiz.

Eight connected topics

Framing a professional exchange

Framing means agreeing the purpose, scope, available time and desired next step. Separate observable facts from interpretations and check assumptions before discussing a concern.

Active listening and reformulation

Listen without preparing a rebuttal, leave space for a response and reformulate the meaning in your own words. Ask the interlocutor to confirm or correct your understanding; empathy does not require agreement.

Question types and clarification

Distinguish open, closed, probing and clarification questions. Start broadly, explore one point at a time and confirm specifics without leading the answer or turning the conversation into an interrogation.

Synchronisation and contextual alignment

Synchronisation/alignment with the interlocutor means adapting pace, language and listening respectfully. Ask about preferences and consider role, medium and cultural context without stereotypes; it is not manipulation or fake mimicry.

Metaphor and differing opinions

Use a metaphor to clarify an unfamiliar idea, then check its meaning and limits; never use it to obscure the issue. Acknowledge differing opinions, distinguish positions from underlying concerns and disagree with an idea without attacking the person.

Assertiveness, boundaries and saying no

Distinguish assertiveness from passivity and aggression. Describe the facts, state your need or boundary and make a specific request. Saying no can include a brief reason and a feasible alternative, without promising what you cannot do.

Feedback and the sandwich technique

Make feedback specific to an observable action and its effect. Teach the sandwich technique as one feedback structure: a sincere positive point, a clear improvement, then a constructive closing. It is neither a guarantee of acceptance nor a mechanical disguise for criticism; direct, respectful feedback may fit better.

Conflict and difficult conversations

Prepare a difficult conversation, name the issue without blame and invite the other perspective. In conflict, explore needs, agree a workable next step and check follow-up; pause or use an appropriate workplace support channel when needed. These tools do not guarantee resolution.

Both products cover these same eight theoretical topics. Live training adds guided practice and facilitated feedback; the asynchronous product offers recorded theory, worked examples and a knowledge quiz only.

How you learn

Study the same eight theoretical topics through recorded explanations and worked examples. The four proposed video blocks total 120 minutes. This is theory-only independent learning: no live sessions, facilitated exercises, role-play or individual facilitator feedback. Quiz answers indicate conceptual understanding, not demonstrated interpersonal skill.

Foundations — 30 video min

Framing a professional exchange; active listening and reformulation. Two topics illustrated through short workplace examples.

Clarification and adaptation — 30 video min

Question types; synchronisation and contextual alignment without stereotypes or mimicry.

Meaning and boundaries — 30 video min

Metaphor and differing opinions; assertiveness, boundaries and saying no.

Feedback and conflict — 30 video min

Specific feedback and the sandwich technique; conflict and difficult conversations.

Quiz — additional time

Questions on concepts and short scenarios across all eight topics. Allow time beyond the two video hours for the quiz, notes and review.

Delivery and duration

Proposed asynchronous format: two hours of recorded theoretical video plus a knowledge quiz. The quiz takes additional time; two hours is not a total completion-time promise. Worked examples illustrate concepts but do not constitute guided practice or observed performance.

Review and feedback

The quiz checks recognition, explanation and selection of appropriate approaches in professional scenarios. It does not assess actual conversational performance, provide individual facilitator feedback or guarantee conflict-resolution ability.

Another way to learn

Want to practise in live exchanges?

Interpersonal Communication — Live Training

One day, five learning hours, in person or live online: the same theory with seven practical activities, role-play and facilitated feedback.

Explore live training

Questions before you start

Is the theory the same as the live product?

Yes. Both cover the same eight topics. This version is theory only; guided application and facilitated feedback belong to live training.

Does two hours include the quiz?

No. The proposed two hours cover recorded video. Quiz time, note-taking and review are additional.

Is this a recording of the five-hour live day?

No. It is a proposed two-hour theoretical course with worked examples and a quiz, not a recording of the practical day.

Communication interpersonnelle — Cours en autonomie — MedSirat Academy

MedSirat Academy · Cours
